CARE

To avoid any dirt or stain from getting into the stone, we highly recommend that the stone is sealed before installation. We recommend using mild soap and microfiber to clean the surface. Due to the nature of our all natural stones, our stone counters and/or sinks may have a variation in color, discolorations or other such related birthmarks. Silkroad Exclusive uses all natural stones that come from the Earth, formed in natural processes, and so may contain imperfections.

Steps to take care of the vanity:
1. Only use mild soap and microfiber cloth to clean the stone
2. Make sure the vanity is clean and completely dried
3. Apply sealant onto the stone per the instructions on the sealant
4. Sealant may need to be re-applied every 6 months or once a year per instructions. Sealant can be purchased at any of your local home improvement stores.

Stains:
1. If there is a watermark, grease and/or oil stain, you can purchase stain remover from your local home improvement store for your stone type. Follow the instructions provided with the product.
2. Once the stain is removed, clean the countertop and wait for it to completely dry.
3. Apply sealant as instructed on the product.

WHAT KIND OF STONES IS MARBLE, TRAVERTINE, and GRANITE?

Marble stone is metamorphic rock formed from fairly pure calcite crystals in its parent limestone or dolomite rocks that have heated, softened and then crystallized naturally over a long period of time from the immense pressure in the earth's crust. These forces cause the limestone to change in texture and mineral makeup. This process is called recrystallization. Limestone is originally made up of shells and bones of ancient sea creatures that fell to the sea floor millions of years ago. The calcium in the bones and shells combines with the carbon dioxide in water to form calcium carbonate. The fossilized materials in the limestone, along with its original carbonate minerals, recrystallize and form large, coarse grains of calcite, which is the basic mineral structure of all marble. Marble is formed with a medium density and pores.

Travertine also began as limestone, which over time - through geological shifting - found its way deep in the earth. The porous nature of limestone derives from small bodies of standing water and rock called Aquifers. This is the water of ice age melting, which sank below and was absorbed by layers of limestone. Because of the earth's hot inner core, the water rises as steam and hot pressurized water that forms hot mud baths. This rising hot water dissolves the limestone and brings with it a small particle from below, forming mud beds on or near the surface. If enough time passes and the mud beds cool, they will crystallize into a solid stone call travertine. Travertine is formed with a low density and pores.

Granite began as liquid magma in the center of the earth. It is a different type of stone, called Igneous. The ingredients that make granite are minerals known as feldspar, quartz, and mica. The major mineral ingredient of granite is feldspar. Due to the extreme pressure within the earth and the absence of atmosphere, granite is formed with a high density and no pores.
